@Olaf Schoenweiss:

Could you try to compile OWB (Aros version) for os 3.x ?

I think the user "WaWa" has all the dependancies libraries already compiled for 68k, so it should be "relatively" easy.

OWB on AmiKit would truly rock !!

I'm not sure amikit is appropriate. Too much bloat.

Maybe tidying ClassicWB up to behave more like a standard WB3.1 install is a better bet.

I think the guy who does BetterWB has the right idea.

What specific part of Amikit is bloated?

I want to attract new users and developers. I do not think that BetterWB is suited for that. Everyone is of course free to use what he likes. But not as official distribution.

Run it on a real amiga, you will see.

Even in UAE it has a huge startup time for all the junk it's loading, etc. Not counting dopus shareware nag.

It is a good starting point. A different icon set and some stuff like ahi and mui and it covers most things.

there will be no solution that is perfect for everyone. There are the "Purists" that prefer having a minumum configuration with the typical "3.1"-look, others prefer rich-guis.

There are these different options:
3.1
3.9
BetterWB
Aros 68k
AmigaSys
Amikit

There will certainly be some advice what should be installed (e.g. libraries) but everybody is free to decide what to use. I prefer rich-guis with tons of options :-) and therefore I am working at a update/extension of Amikit.

Personally I want a distro that feels like an updated workbench release (BetterWB) rather than someone's customised workbench thrown into a zip.

So that's what I'm slowly tinkering away on.

there is no problem. There will be a minimum requirement (libraries, drivers...) but noone can and will be forced to use a certain configuration. But many users will prefer a preconfigured rich environment. But that is a individual decision.

I have put in further informations and new screenshots. In the next days I will include more informations regarding development (environments and scripting) and start with Grunch-Scripts for easy updating.

Great great job of compiling latest and the best.

Always love BB4 project (is it outdated by now)

Mixed with AmiKit updates, that might be the magic Natami OS 3.9+
There would be no need for 10 options, not even OS 3.1, suppose you should max out the 68k feeling of being as contemporary as possible plus offering latest 68k AROS?

Or the feeling is different? As OS4 user will not be among first to buy Natami, but surely, if software using it develops later it is very attractive to anyone that has ever used Classic.

Respect to all developers, hope hardware will be ready soon as well as software :-) May the magic retzrn, thanks to FPGA and brave people

I have sent a email to the maintainer of BoingBag if he is interested in cooperation and if there is something I should add.

I have also added Update for AmigaSys:

"CLI" is still only listed. I will improve that page later.

  and additional screenshots:

I now want to create a presentation with hollywood that covers Natami and all relevant distributions and I have started to update Grunch (Package-Manager)

I think parts of the still active hardcore-fans will create their own environment and not use any distribution. Such a all-out-of-the-box solution is expecially interesting to reattract users that have left the platform or users that never had a amiga before. Those will judge the hardware by screenshots and data and the old OS31-look will not be enough. I have a friend who was using ST before and now uses Mac, who was very surprised how competitive and modern Amiga (68k) is (he became interested). So distributions are not for the hardcore here, but I think it will help (a small piece) to revive the platform.

For the rest (my personal opinion) there will be a minimum requirement (libraries, drivers...) for a Natami-System.

Email replied :)

BTW, you should also name the distro that started it all:

Amiga in a Box

Dont forget other distros that are a bit more unknown, but still have some points of interest:

Pandora BOX 1.5, with its russian origins
Pack Ultimate 68k 1.2, a very recent one, which is quite nice

PS: I love performing AmigaOS tweaks, so if you need help on anything, just ask.

As much as I would prefer a very basic Arosm68k or Workbench 3.1 + some basic bugfixes, I also strongly believe any newcomers will want to look at shiny, gui-candy screenshots.

+1

I will include other distros in the presentation and perhaps on my webpage and even create a new independent distro based on Grunch and 31 but to get new users and developers from outside the existing scene we need competitive distributions with good user-interfaces. This people will judge the product by the user-interface.
