Will the Natami offer any advanced copy protection?  Some say that software piracy killed the Amiga and Atari because copies of Atari games hit bulletin boards before the actual game came out.

It really makes no sense , market is small , cool people and people who can : pay . some will not , some will never .

an old strategy is to skip fighting stupe and deliver to the ones who appreciate . the others , those who do not appreciate , might do in a future or never , yet they help making an app popular and increase exposure... consider them 'fans'

I know it is hard to feel free to think like that but it helps avoid the usual amount of non resolving spoilments of creation .

I think that a copy protection would be a greater hinderance to the most avid users and fans of a app ... in terms of user experience .

Lastly , today , apps are downloaded anyway , not getting floppies per postage ( i still do get some floppies though from time to time :) , so if You deliver a marvelous programm as part of a supportive framework , there is no other distributor at launch time ... , ... , ...

i suggest it will be easier to sell an app if autors unite and channel through a site the manyfold aspects of giving out something of value...

Will any copy protection sheme allow to replicate for security the apps , how many different copy shemes will be out there and how many procedures to back up applications . ... it makes little sense , it seems .

Nasty activation codes should be resolved through one mechanism over internet and in a somewhat centralized community channel , may have a couple of offsprings though to test and explore other approaches .

Cheers , ... is going for a double malt on the health of all of You !! Might repeat the procedure : double malt ()

I agree with all said.

Look how MicroHard does business. Their copy protection is declarative nature. They know every new version will be cracked without bigger problem, but that do not bother them, because they are creating user base of "addicts". And when those users grow up, they will eventually buy their OSes and tools for their companies and businesses... Because they must obey the law.

With Natami different approach is needed. Users need to honor all the time and effort invested in this platform. You cannot force them to do so. Community will encourage them. Community is small, but that way it is easier for people to stick together.

I don't see much piracy happening in the current Amiga scene. New proprietary software actually gets bought. And I don't see why that would change with Natami.
The stuff that people get off the net is stuff that has been unavailable and unsupported for years.

I'd rather see a solid foundation of open source software for the Natami with added value in the form of proprietary software, without any obnoxius copy protection schemes. Everyone knows that that only hurts the paying customer and never the pirate.
