Great News!

I just talked with Mr. Haage and he would allow it that we use Amiga Writer for the Natami (if it works)

I do not know if we will get the source but i will ask when the natami is out

That's great news.
I haven't ever used Amiga Writer sad to say.
An acceptable word processor needs to have text flow around images (and not just around their box).
This needs to include options: to left and/or to right of image.
Does Amiga Writer have this?

What this proposed 'project' really needs is a brainstorming page where people can add elements to a growing list of features.

Non-team members could add features and categories to this growing list and this can be vetted by you Olaf or which ever team members.
New added features/categories can be red while vetted possible features/categories can be in green.  Out right rejected features can be in black.

It is otherwise difficult to co-ordinate a feature list.
Forum pages aren't the best way to build a feature list.
I'm guessing the above would be difficult to provide.
It would be the best way forward if it were possible...

Capacitors, resistors, chips etc.)

CD-WRITE (This software allows you to virtually write to your
CD-ROM disks!  OS2.04+ required!)

CROSS DOS 6.0 (No longer includes Cross PC. CrossDOS  6  requires
2.0  of  the  Amiga operating system to run. Previous versions
allowed operation under 1.2 of the OS. The  file  system  code has
been optimized for speed so that reads and writes are about 10
times faster. The  mfm.device  driver  used  to  access  the
floppies  have been further  optimized  to  read  and  write
about 8 times faster than version 3 and about 4 times faster than
version 4 CrossDOS. We  support  MS-DOS  hard drives. We supply a
configuration program to  simplify  the  process  of  creating
the  proper  mountfile. We now work across Amiga networks. Many
other  improvements  have  been  made that are designed to be
transparent to the user but which make it easier to use. Includes
some docs.)

DATAMAT 2.0 (With some docs.)

DYNAMIC CAD 2.1 (3 disks. 2 drives required.)
DYNAMIC CAD SLIDESHOW

EMPLANT MAC LITE (8 MEGS or more. Macintosh Emulator which also
includes the software for AMIA support. (AMIA is a cartridge that
allows the reading and writing of any 800k MAC floppy disk on any
Amiga.)  This is the fastest, newest, best MAC emulator for the
Amiga! It can run nearly anything!  It even multitasks so you can
run Mac software and Amiga software simultaneously! Wow! Works on
AGA and ECS Amigas!  You'll probably want to buy a High-Density
floppy drive.  Remember, an Amiga High-Density drive can be used
to read/write Amiga, Macintosh and IBM disks so it's like getting
3 drives for the price of 1! You'll also probably want to use
either a flickerfixer or an AGA Amiga. This software supports the
Amiga's built-in graphics (ECS or AGA) PLUS lots of different
graphics cards such as CyberGraphX, Cybervision, EGS, Merlin,
OpalVision, Picasso, Picolo, RB2/3, Retina, Spectrum, Vision,
Vivi.  This runs software just as fast as a REAL Macintosh!!!  It
can read/write REAL Mac High-Density floppies and hard drives!  It
can run things like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Freehand, NetScape,
Microsoft Word, etc. According to the Amiga magazines this did not
come with any printed manual. Requires 020 or better processor, at
least 20 megs of free Harddrive space and a copy of a Mac ROM.)

ENPRINT 2.0 (EnPrint is a powerful 24 bit prinitng system, with
many configuration options to allow you to adjust its operation to
your needs. After installing the software, we strongly recommend
you read the EnPrint.guide introduction to familiarize yourself
with the features and operation of the software. Users of our
Epson Stylus Color Driver 1.2 will find EnPrint to be vastly
changed and improved, and should also read the introduction to
learn what is new and different (almost everything!) Remember to
select the appropriate driver in your Workbench Printer
Preferences before starting to use the software. See Epson.guide
for the driver names and related information. Besides extensive
(more than 120K) documentation in AmigaGuide format, the
documentation is also provided in Final Writer format. All this
documentation is included on the disk and will be automatically
installed to your hard drive. Requires OS2.04 or higher.  This is
software to fully support the new really cool Epson Stylus Color
Inkjet Printer at it's full 720 dpi resolution!  If you have an
Epson Stylus Printer then you WANT this! Hard drive required.)

EXPERT SYSTEM KIT with docs. (Knowledge base manipulator.)

FINAL CALC (4 disks. 1 MEG or more. The magazines all say that
this is a top-notch spreadsheet.)

FINAL DATA RELEASE 3 (2 disks. OS 2.04+ required!)

FINANCIAL COOKBOOK with docs.

FINANCIAL TIME MACHINE

FLOOR PLAN CONSTRUCTION SET (2 disks. Looks very nice.)

FLOW with docs. (Idea Processor.)

FLOW 3.0 (I always liked the old version of this program but this
new one is much better!  It works fine on the A3000 and comes with
some good examples.  It's very easy to use and really can help you
get your ideas organized.  Try it, you'll like it.  By New
Horizons,  the makers of Prowrite. Features collapsible outlines.)

GP FAX 2.437 (More fax software for your Amiga! Fax modem and hard
drive required! GPFax has been designed to fully support the fax
capabilities of many fax compatible modems. The program provides
full send and receive capabilities of group 3, Class 1 or 2
facsimile modems as defined in the preliminary standards documents
issued under TIA TR29.2 (Class 2) and in accordance with the CCITT
T4 and T30 specifications.      * Send and receive faxes to and
from remote fax machines or fax compatible modems. Fully
compatible with most modems supporting the Group 3 Class 2 (TIA
TR29.2) or the Class 1 fax standards.        * Complete
'Intuition' interface - fully mouse or keyboard driven.        *
Send multiple pages of text or IFF picture files to multiple
phone numbers with automatic page markers and fax header stamp.
  * Automatic generation of fax cover sheet for company name,
voice        and fax numbers, to, from, and attention fields,
with ability to include letterhead and signature images.        *
Automatic or manual reception of faxes with time, date and sender
identification stamping.)

GP FAX DOCS (The complete docs for version 2.342.  Even includes
programmer information.      * Conversion of text and IFF picture
images to 'G3' fax format. Files are stored as CBM defined
standard IFF FAXX FORMs.        * Conversion of G3 faxes to
standard IFF ILBM format for off-line editing with paint programs
such as Deluxe Paint program.        * GPFax printer driver and
'Print Popup' function allows easy creation and direct
transmission of faxes from any standard Amiga word processing,
desktop publishing or paint program.        * Integrated phone
book stores most used numbers and pre-prepared fax cover sheet
information. Ability to 'group' numbers.        * Complete log
book of all transmitted and received faxes.        * Print
received faxes on standard Amiga printer.        * Scheduler for
unattended transmission of faxes at later time.        * Fully
user defined 'environment' for default fax cover pages and
font selection.        * Full ARexx support with more than 30
commands.        * For Class 2 modems, auto-detection between FAX
and DATA connections. Interfaces with BBS software to provide a
fax server capability for dial-in users.        * Iconified for
full functional background operation. Application Icon support for
Workbench 2 and above. Under Workbench 2, GPFax provides extra
functionality of application icons. The user simply 'drags' icons
on top of the program icon to preform many program functions.)

HAICALC 1.7 with docs. (Spreadsheet with graphing.)

HOME ACCOUNTS

HOME FRONT (2 disks. Complete home management system.)

HOME INVENTORY 1.0 (By Sunsmile.)

INFOMINDER

INTRO CAD PLUS 3.07 (2 disks. 1 MEG or more. By Progressive
Peripherals & Software. Includes the regular version and the 020
version + utilities.)
INTROCAD 2.0 (With some docs.)

KICKSTART 1.2 (For the AMIGA 1000. Awesome, reliable, stable,
memory-efficient, 32-bit, shared-library using, TRUE MULTITASKING
operating system upgrade for your Amiga 1000. Runs DOS and WINDOWS
simultaneously! Cool!  Multiple screens of different resolutions.
31 character filenames. Lots of other powerful features!)
KICKSTART 2.04 (for the Amiga 3000. Version 37.60.  Just put this
in your DEVS: directory and name it kickstart and as long as your
A3000 has no kickstart ROM chip, it will boot this file up just
like it was your ROM chip.  If you have a ROM chip in your A3000
you can take it out, that's what I did. Then you can easily switch
between different versions of the OS. Using this file will of
course burn up 512k of your fast ram but your ram is faster than
ROM so you'll get a speed increase.)

KICKSTART 3.1 (For the Amiga 3000.  Version 40.1.  Now you can
upgrade your A3000 to OS 3.1 super cheap!)
LINK IT! (Version 1.0a.  This software is for linking an Amiga to
an IBM over the serial port.  It can transfer data back and forth
and convert different data formats properly.  This doesn't include
the IBM version of Link it! (which you will need).  Doesn't
support the Parrallel port yet.  Includes some docs.)

LOGISTIX (Spreadsheet.)

LOTUS 123 aka VIP PROFESSIONAL with docs.

MACINTOSH ROMS (This disk contains both the 1 meg and 512k Apple
Macintosh ROMS.  They are suitable for use with either
ShapeShifter or Emplant or probably other Macintosh emulators.
The 1 meg ROM is the newer one and you should use it unless you
have Mac software which is incompatible with it in which case you
should switch to the 512k ROM. Cool, huh?)

MAGELLAN 1.0 with docs. (2 disks. Set up your own expert systems.)

MAPLE V (4 disks. 3 MEGS or more. Hard drive required!  This is
supposed to be the ultimate mathematics program. This is release

nice program but all the text is in German. OS 2.04+ required

MULTIFAX 4.0 (3 disks. 1 MEG or more. Great FAX software!  You'll
need some sort of FAX-Modem to get any real use out of this.
Harddrive required.)

MULTIPLOT XLNE (Sophisticated plotting program. SUMMARY: Multiplot
XLN is a fully intuitive data plotting program. It plots data
points as (x,y) coordinates with or without error bars. It can
plot an unlimited number of sets of any number of data points
using colour, line type, point shape and point size to represent
the different sets. A set may be joined by a line or plotted as
discrete points. Data may be scatter plotted, or shown as a
histogram or step graph. Additions to the data may be made in the
form of lines of best fit (logarithmic, exponential, linear and
polynomial) and data smoothing utilising modified open b-splines
or averaging filtration. The input file for multiplot is a simple
textfile and my be created in the NotePad or saved from any
spreadsheet. Multiplot fully supports the clipboard, and data
input may be achieved solely through it.    Output may be in any
of the following formats: IntroCAD, Draw, mCAD, IFF, Revised
Hewlet-Packard Graphics Language (HPGL/2), Encapsulated Postscript
(EPSF) or Postscript. The graph can be printed to any workbench
printer by transparent use of the PLT: device. Multiplot directly
supports Postscript laser printers such as the Apple Laser
printer; and the HP LaserJet III. REQUIREMENTS: Workbench 1.3 (or
higher) INPUT FILE FORMAT    Multiplot accepts a simple ASCII
file for input of data. This file may be written on any text
editor, including the NotePad, or may be generated as a textfile
from a spreadsheet. Multiplot does not choke on the
linefeed/carriage-return of IBM style spreadsheets. The data must
consist of columns of numbers and need not contain text. Multiplot
produces publication quality graphics.    Multiplots have now
been published in refereed scientific journals and presented in
international scientific meetings on three continents.)

MULTIPLOT XLNF V1.06 with docs. (1 MEG or more. This version
requires OS 2.04 or higher.  This has all the features of version
XLNe plus: some bug fixes, Arexx support and some new features.  I
really like this software because you can just use the mouse to
slide your graphs around on the screen!  You can also use the
mouse to zoom in/out on your graph! It can graph your points in a
variety of ways such as little boxes, triangles, asterisks,
crosshairs and others.  Your graphs can be saved as IFF, Data,
IntroCAD, Draw, mCAD, HPGL/2, Postscript or EPS. This means that
your graphs can be imported into just about any Amiga graphics
package ever made! This is a really good scientific graphing
package.  It's only drawback is that it cannot properly
right-justify the postscript output so that columns of numbers may
be a little off.  Other than that it is awesome!)

NAG PLUS 4.1 (Harddriveable.  Includes Arexx support.)

ORGANISER 2 (By Digita. Requires OS 2.04+.)

ORGANISER 96 PLUS PACK (Diaries, themes and supplements.  Health,

network 2 Amigas together in a true Peer-to-Peer network.  You can
access each others floppy drives, hard drives, devices etc.  Max
transfer rate 40k per second.)

Very incomplete list of Amiga WP & DTP software.

AEDIT with docs. (A general purpose text editor.)

ART EXPRESSION 1.04 (5 disks. 1 MEG or more. By Soft-Logik.
Postscript illustration program. I use this software for most of
my DTP needs.  I mostly design flyers and things 1 page at a time.
If you want to design an entire book or newsletter then this will
not do it for you.  If you want to design some graphics, logos or
designs to go into your book or newsletter then this is for you.
It has lots of good features like text rotation, text on a curve,
text on a squiggly line, centering, line, arc & box drawing etc.
Nice user interface.  Can print to any printer but the output will
look a little better on a real postscript printer.  Works with any
Postscript fonts. No conversion crap needed. You can load/save and
resize/stretch EPS graphics (clipart). Very fast on A4000/040
25 Mhz. This is the new (and final) updated version. Bugs have
been fixed and features added.)

with lots of scalable fonts.  The fonts are in it's own
proprietary format, NOT Postscript.)

FINAL WRITER 4 (9 disks. Works perfectly on A4000! A great word
processor!  This one has a better spell-checker than Wordworth 5.
This also has a grammar checker! Tells you the grade level of your
writing!  Can import Prowrite 3.3 files but loses all the bold,
italics, fonts and stuff.  This one finally directly supports
postscript fonts! Yea! Imports EPS clipart. Variable page
magnification, click-tabs, configurable buttons, thesaurus,
144,000 word dictionary!  Supports both ordinary and Postscript
printers.  Comes with lots of fonts and clip art!  Lots of other

many articles and docs with this program.  Drawbacks: the
superscript/subscript and pagenumbering aren't as good as some of
the other word processors.)

all functions.  A really great wordprocessor!  Does everything
Prowrite 3.3 does plus: it is compatible with with standard
Postscript scalable fonts! Yeah! Also works with Compugrahic
scalable and Truetype scalable fonts!  Better user interface than
Prowrite 3.3.  Let's you import and size bitmap and scalable
graphics!  Lets you flow text around the graphics.  Let's you
design simple graphics right on the page!  Really fantastic
super-fancy text effects like circle, spiral, etc.  Easy to use
and highly customizable! ALSO INCLUDES LOADS OF ON-LINE HELP!
Supports color & B&W.  Prints to Postscript or regular printers.

I own Wordworth 7 from ages ago.
Just tried to install it and it is telling me I don't have enough space to install its 3.5Mb of files to my Work: hard drive that has 343Gb free.  That's funny.
Installed it to the RAM disk instead.
However it won't even run...
I'm using WinUAE on my PC.
Would have like to get it up and running just to list its features.

Just make a 1GB .hdf and install it to that.

Afterwards you can move it to whereever u want.

A lot of Amiga software reports negative disk sizes when using large partitions in UAE, and refuse to install because of that. AMOS for example is a bitch to install. Try experimenting with various HDF sizes.

@Gone Gahgah
3 other WordWorth 7 things to try...

1) Edit ENVARC:WordWorth/WwFonts to point to the location of your WwFonts.

2) Add PICASSO=TRUE tooltype to Wordworth icon.

3)Install the 7.01 patch from aminet.

Thanks for that help.  I have it working now on a 20Mb .hdf file.
I tried moving it but it keeps looking for the original path?
Doesn't matter.  Now I can revisit it.

= Objects or Features / - Notes

Wordworth 7 - Word Processor Implementation

= Font
= Style (Plain, bold, underline (single or double), italic).
  = Position (normal, superscript, subscript).
= Options []small caps []strike thru.
= Settable letters percentage wider (9% to 999%).
= Settable letter lean tilt (-45 to 45 deg).
  = Kerning (None, Text, Design)
= Tracking (-13 to undetermined big number).
= Text colour from 24 colours.
    - Colours and their names can be redefined but not added too.
    - These 24 colours are universal to the document.
    - Changing one of the colours values in one place changes all.
= Text background colour from 24 colours or none.
    - As mentioned the 24 colours are common to everything.
= Paragraph
= Alignment (left, centre, right, full).
= Settable spacing before &/or after paragraph.
= Settable line height or 'auto', 'loose', '6 lpi' or '8 lpi'.
= Settable indentation (left, right, first line).
  = Line spacing (1, 1+1/2, 2).
= Allow hyphenation or not for the paragraph.
  = Tabs
= Paragraph equal tab interval or
= Specific tab points (left, right, centred, decimal).
= Filler character between tabbed text.
      - Never seen this strange feature before.
      - the filler character is space separated.
= Drawing elements
  - Absolute Positioning Only (to page; not to text)
  - No rotation.
  - Don't seem to be connectible (eg line to line).
  = Text abutment
    - Cannot have drawing element in middle of text.
= Straight or contoured left or right or none
    = Gap size settable.
  = Types
    = Text box
    = Tables
      - Absolute positioning only also.
    = Line/Fill Drawings
      - Fill colour can be transparent.
      - No pattern, picture or other filling.
      - Outline can be any width including 0.
      - Continuous line only; no line patterns.
    = Line (Open/Closed)
      - Can not edit points
    = Circle
    = Oval
    = Rectangle
    = Oblong
      - Fixed corner sizes; can't be adjusted.
    = Pentagon
    = Corner line
      - Fixed corner ratio.
    = Pictures
    = Text effects
= Document
  = Orientation (Portrait or landscape)
    - Doesn't allow separate pages to be different orientations.

Here is a start.  I will edit and add to it as I go.

You can already see how different solutions produce different results and make it hard to change to new solutions.

Most modern word processors have tables as a section in the normal text flow whereas Wordworth has it as a drawing element that is anchored to an absolute position on the page.

But to add the better solution would no doubt require a substantial rewrite of Wordworth.  Otherwise they would have just added it.  New features take forethought or onerous rewrites.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a great deal to add...

You can also have the following drawing elements: 4,5,6 point stars, isosceles triangle (4 directions), right angle triangle (4 directions), oval speech bubble (4 directions), square speech bubble (4 directions), arrow (4 directions), 2 ended arrow (2 directions).
None of these can be rotated.

There is a provision for mail merge which I will have to work out.
There is a dictionary and thesaurus and user dictionary words.

You can group/ungroup drawing elements.  You can lock them to page.
You can copy them to all pages.
You can make them watermarks.
The text frames can have a 'next text frame' added to create a sequence of text frames.

There is support for ARexx scripts.  I will try to list the commands later.

You can have a grid to snap drawing elements too.

the problem with Wordworth is that it is not supported or saled anymore and it is not allowed to preinstall it (I asked), so it is no real option for a kind of natami-office

Kool.

What is the state of play with the other word processors?
Do any of them support section based tables (which WW7 doesn't)?
Probably none of them support any sort of embedding; that's being a bit hopeful?
Do any of them support more options for anchoring objects (to page, in paragraph, to character, as character)?

BTW.  You're doing a great job getting apps for the Natami!

@Olaf (and possibly other devs interested):

IMO, we better start porting OWB (I recommend porting MorphOS version). A Web browser is vital these days.

Here's the link: EXTERNAL LINK  The developer that hopefully is interested can cross-develop it under a Linux machine. The morphos author will kindly help in porting differences from MUI4 to MUI 3.8.

I think that AfaOS uses Zune from AROS instead of mainline MUI.  Using the AROS version of OWB might be an option.

If Fab is willing to port the MorphOS version to 68k AmigaOS 3.x, then more power to him!

I have contact to one of the netsurf-developer. he said that natami was one of the motivations to create a 68K Version of Netsurf. So there will be a relativ modern browser (Javascript is in devlopment, flash still missing)
