I know this has been up a lot of times and is probably already seattled.
But would it be completly rediculous to have a mainboard design fitting an amiga 1200 case?

Being able to put the Natami in an A1200 case would be VERY VERY cool!
It would even fit an internal HDD and the FDD could be replaced by a DVD reader.

But... would be the keyboard connector compatible? Are there any adapter?

EXTERNAL LINK
This could work for the keyboard issue, however I am not sure if the mainboard fits within the A1200 case.

well i think it should be posible, but would you like to case mod a A1200 case?

BTW Channel Z that s a partial solution, natami to my knowledge only has external USB's so you'll have a ugle USB cable just to have a functal keyboard. :/

well... if extra holes would be made in a small formfactor natami board to fit the screwholes already in the a1200 case, it should be rather easy to make a backpanel with the needed connectors to fit the back of the A1200.
I would probably keep the cd/dvd drive external.

Where have you gotten this impression? The Natami LX PDF clearly states that the USB is optional and thus it should be connectable on the internal USB headers.

Channel Z no offence but i know how the connectors looks like on a PCB and if you look at the pictures you can see it.
There is no header, there are holes for 2 external USB connections.
(correction no standard header, and i should be able to asume the team didn't do a homemade design for it but a standard interface.)

I know this since i used to work with electronic's

I would rather prefer something which would fit into standard micro-ATX or (better) mini-ITX case...

Roman for the size i advice looking at the news thread there is a topic on the board and in the first five pages the formfactor gets mentioned.

Back off topic, you know if ou put it in a A1200 case does it leave room to use the PCI expandtion slots?

Probably not.

For the USB, wouldnt it just be a matter og getting the MB with 5 pins instead where the USB connecter is supposed to be, so you can make a wired connection to the backpanel instead?

Nikolai not realy but it's close to the truth.
the problem is the pin layout is incomaptible with a header.
another point USB only needs 4 pins for the 5th is shield.

and if you can solder good you can pull a trick on it.

it would however void any for of warrenty you got.

Guys, all we need to know is the following:

1) What is the ACTUAL size of the board (in cm)?
2) What is the height (in cm) of the board.
3) What is the height (in cm) of the board WITH the cpu card FITTED?
4) Where is the lowest and where the highest height of the board?

As soon as we know these, we can measure the 1200 shell and start talking again. Everything can be modded and the A1200 shell is HUGE! According to the board's picture, you can actually fit 2 of them in an empty 1200 shell! I can fit 2 SAMs in my 1200, I assume this board is also 17x17cm.

@ Gunnar or Thomas:
Please clarify the questions above, once and for all. You can do it now. You HAVE the board in your hands!

P.S. As for KB etc, an adaptor is possible. Parts for this slot are still available, all you need is a crazy technician. But IIRC there are various PC white/beige KB that actually fit on the A1200's slots. I remember seeing a photo in a.org many years ago.

board size is 170mm by 140mm this has been said by thomas on the second page of this eval board topic.
Hm, the size of the evaluation board i would take it as a safe bett the real one is about the same size.

  CLICK HERE

this is wet work but i think according to the picture the CPU board doesn't raise it higher then the ATX power connector does.
Optical illusions may have effected me on that picture.

George search and thou will find it, some topics go around in circles, others get started while their question already have been answered elsewhere.

More importantly for case modders screw holes and size of the screws are it M3*5 or a different size?

170x140? It DEFINATELY FITS! As a matter of fact you can fit 2! And an internal KVM! LOOOOOOOOOL!

P.S. Marcel: I know that most things have benn answered. I search all the time... But I believe that SOMEDAY they must put this in a spot that everybody can find it easy. Let's say... the HW page? :-P

Alternativly if the endproduct is actually gonna be 170*140 there would actually not be any need for soldering, since you can just use a USB extension cable with a bracketmount on the female end.

For georges comment about the CPU card.
I would most likely wait for the consumer board since my amiga budget is fairly limitted :(

is this mini-itx or something custom?

it's mini itx, with a second PCI slot that in a regular Mini itx case can't be used.

No need having a USB on a bracket, it's onboard and on the back panel already.

what about a cuboid case?

in a regular mini-itx case the pci card must be connected via a riser? i think this would make a space-concurrence with the processor-board, not?

Depends on the riser card in question, so can't realy say untill i have a physical board.
But it should be said you can use a dual slot riser and Unless the CPU needs a over sized cooling i don't se a problem.
Besides the CPU card can be removed because it isn't critical to the Natami's funtions unless you would use it as a Dev-Machine but then i Don't see why one wants to build it out of it's case and move it into another.

The Natami comes in a case and already has a Ethernet card in it.
I would say it would also be likely to have a power supply, since i don't see the team doing half work on this.
