Hi,
I'm following this forum for several months and now I'm wondering:
- Is this a never ending project?

I do not want to be sarcastic, I apologize if someone might take offense to this question but at this point I would like to understand.

Thx

It will go on for as long as the people involved are interested in working on it.

Also, please do not post general questions in the "news" section of the forum.

Commodore had several hundred employees and they still spent years between computers and models.  There were several individuals that made things happen.

The Natami team is made up of volunteers and I don't know about all of them but they have their specialty and some of them work in the industry.  They have full time jobs and families so this is an effort in their spare time.

The difficulty would be that you are not just programming in 68000 code but they are doing it in FPGA as well.  They are making things from scratch from ideas that exist in theory only.

If anyone remembers Abacus Books, the explanation of the Amiga existed in multiple volumes so it isn't an easy task.

They also don't have the power of larger companies bankrolling the project.

I remember that some things on the Amiga took a year and a half by one Commodore engineer.

How long do you think it should take?  How simple is it?  Should non-simple things take no time?  How long should it take?

After ordering a pandora and waiting quite some time to recieve it I have developed quite some patience with these sort of projects.LoL.
Still good things come to those who wait.A new amiga is a new amiga no matter when it's released and that is a glorious and immutable fact.
PS team natami please release a new video or updates at the end of 2012.

If I could in any way, shape or form advance the speed of NatAmi development, I would do it.

I am working on some of my own projects, any of which if they come into being, I would use any of what I got to speed up NatAmi development/production/exposure.

I am ready to do anything within my sphere of influence to see this happen!!!!

Right now, I am not able to contribute anything. :-(

When this changes, I will act immediately!

I sincerely hope that no one will drop out of this most unusual adventure!!!

Then start learning digital electronics, hardware description languages and C and 68k assembly. :)

To the Natami Team:

This question (about the never ending project) is a good one.

There is a lot of people waiting for Natami.

You can solve or answer this question by putting a short status report in the News-Section or the Blog. Just list the diffrent Project-Parts an tell what's finished and what's open).

So everybody can see the state of the work.

So everyone can see how development goes on...

@Birbo 79

There is a thread for this purpose: CLICK HERE
We were supposed to switch to updating the blog, but Thomas seems to be more comfortable updating the thread whenever he has something to say :)

Thomas has a new job and is not working full time on the Natami project like he did before. We all have real life commitments, and this of course affects the speed of the projects progress.

I was reading about the electronics of the Commodore 64 and apparently the designers used transistors as resistors.  I don't know how common a practice that is but unless you know what you are doing, it can throw the average person for a loop.

using a transistor for a resistor is a common enough technique to be known to most chip designers. (resistors are hard to make in a exact value inside a chip)

Space is something that is costly on a Chip die and well a half open gate does give resistance.

@ André

Are there other things we could do?

Graphical Work, Enclosure Concepts, Project Plans, Communication Concepts, Support Concepts, Writing Manuals / Documentation, Setting up a WiKi, and so on...

Let me know, if I can help.

Franko on AmigaWorld.Net found this that someone posted on YouTube.....

EXTERNAL LINK
So painful to watch. Back then, everything they said was true! (Except, it was too expensive, as Atari always was able to undercut them in price... I almost bought one on that basis alone. MAN that would have been a H U G E mistake!)

Today's computers are NOT fun to operate.

!!! I WANT MY NATAMI !!!

Well, I forgot I wanted it bad two years ago....

I was ready to pay fortune for it. These days I cant say the same.

But I still follow status of project, it is like some kind of hobby.

In fact, the NatAmi was what brought my interest to the Amiga back. it doesn't really matter that it isn't out yet. there are boards out there, it is working - so it's not just a lot of smoke.

I didn't said that is a lot of smoke. My concern is about the unwillingness to come up with something concrete to put in the hands of fans. We know that whatever the outcome will be subject to several upgrades and some flaws but after so many years it would not hurt a beta (with all the risks).

May I help or not?
