Then I will start to work on the next big update.

I have uploaded the newest version of "Aros Vision". It is based on Aros 68k and extended with software and components from the vast 68k base. It can be used on emulation (UAE) and also on real classic hardware and will be base for 68k emulation in the Aros distributions.

  More infos here:

  Manual here:

  Version is 1.2.
Differenced to the version I published a few weeks ago are added games, Aweb, Scalos as alternative to Wanderer, Amiga Python, PDF-Support (aPDF) and many others.

  My roadmap for future versions:

  1.3.
  CD-Support (MakeCD/Frying Pan)
  added CLI-Commands
Public Screen Support (mostly from CLI)

Sometimes Applications that are started from Wanderer also close Wanderer when they are closed (Public Screen). I will offer workarounds for that in the future.

  1.4.

  Internet-Applications
  Emulators
  Audio-Applications
  Real3D

  1.5.
  Samba/Network
  Utilities for Graphic and Sound
  Demos (AGA)

and I will add much more informations, compatibilty page (Hollywood 5.0. works perfectly), links and tips on my webpage

I have to say thank you even though I'm lurking in the background. AROS is THE one Amiga OS flavor in the end. At least from my point of view.

Does it require graphic card or it can work on AGA?

I have AGA + Blizzars 1230 MK432 Mb ram and I am thinking of installing...

How much space does it need on HDD? Mine is 4GB SD

HD space is not the main problem, as far as I know it is not optimized for "classic hardware" so it needs a couple of MB RAM and 68060 to run at least satisfying. I know that Wawa who is here around and on other sites like aros-exec has managed to install a nightly build on real hardware (Scalos as Workbench) so best ask him. I personally have not a good enough classic hardware to test it there so only experience in emulation.

Here are the informations I got:

your setup will be fine, except wanderer will be rather slow. you will find my instructions how to setup aros in this thread, in particular post #9.

note that currently 060 is recommended, aros has diverse bottlenecks in comparison to original amiga system, most of which will eventually be overcome i hope as they are gui-zune or amiga gfx (aga) related, the system itself (shell) is pretty snappy already.

Is it going to be speed optimized once the initial tests are ok?

it is going to be speed optimized over the whole time independent of my distribution. It is based on nightly builds so it is not faster or slower than the nightly builds (I think version from 2.6.). The Maintainer of kickstart replacement is Toni Wilen and the maintainer of Aros 68k is Jason McMullan.

This is great Olaf :D Just a quick question: why are the icon titles so far away from the icons? Is it due to a bug in the 68k version of AROS?

That could be a problem with Aros 68k (the same happens when a big Icon is in a directory then the same happens with all icons/titles)

Olaf,

Congratulations on Aros Vision for 68K. I am now posting this
via Aros Vision running through UAE. I have much snooping about
to do in your distribution. But from all of your documentation,
I have derived that this is quite complete. This is a great step
in the 68K world in my opinion. Keep up the excellent work Olaf!

Michael

Thank you :-)

it is quiet complete but not fully. I plan two versions (in about two weeks, one version per week) then I hope it is really complete. When you see problems or parts missing do not hesitate to post it here or on aros-exec.

ALT N Processmanager from Executive
ALT M Amos Pro (nocybergraphx)
ALT R DOpus 4 (nocybergraphx)

I have been running the latest version of Vision for a bit now. It is surely improved over the original and well on its way to becoming very functional. My congratulations once again and thank you for your hard work Olaf.
