NATAMI MX Day #3

Hi,

Today I would like to show you what 'GAMES' are.

Games are useful computer programs which are designed to consume the time that you don't spend watching cartoons.

The NATAMI can play AMIGA games.
Dad says that the NATAMI can play OCS, ECS and AGA games from floppies, harddisk, CD, flashdrive or over mounted network drives.

My harddisk came with some games installed.
Starting a game is childs play - All you need to do is click on the icon.

This is one of my favorite games as it allows me to play together with my brother against those fierce little monsters.

I'm playing the green dragon and Arne is playing the blue dragon.

One of my dads favourite games is this one.

Dad says David Braben who made this one is one of his personal heroes.

Another game we like a lot is this one.
The other day we watched "Forbidden Kingdom" where the Ape-King and Jackie Chan were fighting together against the evil army.
Since we watched the movie my brother and I are fighting together all day long.

Now we can fight together on the computer without anyone getting hurt.

Maybe I will show you another day how to use a cool place called 'the Internet' to download more games ...

More to come tomorrow.

This is a GREAT idea for a presentation method.
It sure takes us all back into time when we were all little girls :)

Yes it is, sure, we are all big and tough boys now :)
But we were all screaming like little girls when we put our hands on our Amigas for the first time :)

Ah, Frontier, one of my favourites and probably one of the best games ever written!
Annika, please tell your dad that David Braben is also one of my personal heroes. (I'm still the proud owner of an autographed Frontier manual :) )
And I would love to play Frontier on the NATAMI again. Can't wait...

Another lovely diary entry. Thanks to Annika (and her dad ;-) )

Those screenshots sure bring back some memories. Frontier was awesome. Can't wait to play it again!!

How fast does Frontier play? Does it scale with CPU power or is it locked?

Frontier does scale very well with CPU power. It's not restricted to a specific frame rate like e.g. Elite, quite the contrary, it's one of the few games that make full use of more processor power to increase the frame rate while keeping the same simulated game time i.e. ships don't move faster. The influence of the blitter, however, in contrast to the CPU, is rather small, since Frontier uses the blitter only for clearing the screen. But that doesn't matter much. It should run smoothly, sometimes (or always?) maybe even at the maximum rate of 50 fps (PAL), on the NATAMI anyhow.

So many great Amiga games gathered at one place!

One technical question: I see that the picture is being stretched to fit most of the screen. For 4:3 users (like me) this is great but what about the others? I assume there will be a way to control this?

Hehehe, yes!!!.... I knew what you meant!

Hi Annika,

Thank you for these excellent diary entries.

You are a demonstrator for the newest high technology device in the Amiga chain of computers. And yes, it is an advanced improvement over intel/windows 7. You couldn't imagine how many people are waiting for the next report, and for daddy and his friends to make this available for all of us.

Keep up the splendid work.

I remember vividly when I got the Amiga 500 including a monitor. I sat around 1 hour fustrated trying to find a way to type in LOAD"$",8 somewhere... Who reads manuals anyways?

But, I have to admit, that I had my excitement when I first bought my Commodore 64 with a datasette, but I don't remember screaming like a little girl :D perhaps I was too old for such behaviour.

At least the Amiga was the first computer that allowed me to earn some money, rendering with Imagine, doing logos and video titling. Without doubt a computer way ahead of its time, the Amiga 500!

Cheers :)

Yes, you can see David Brahen there and it seems he could achieved one's natami goal : a computer the size of a USB key.
