| I agree with Gunnar. In German, I know what you wanted to say. I think you wanted to say that you want to leave the BAD part of 100% compatibility away ;-) . In fact, your goal is a further improvement. Please don't make it sound as if it were a step back or sth. like that (damn language barrier!).

| Claudio I know what he meant, it's just that someone without prior understanding of German, or any other Germanic language. and Google doesn't rebuild the sentence.(/darn language barrier) Thomas Hirsch please keep us posted on the progress.

| Marcel, that's *exactly* what I said already.. . But this is still important for people to know, who are not knowledgeable in German. Communication over language barriers is a difficult matter and is not to be underestimated. It is even hard enough to express oneself in one's mother tongue in a way which is intelligible to all who are addressed. If you understand what is meant by what Thomas said, Marcel, that's cool for you. But you can only speak for yourself, and in this case you were not even addressed, as you don't have a problem ;-) . Cheers

| (rant) I have said it in the past if it's directed to a German native or speaker, do it in German.(Gunnar VS Thomas Richter if you can recall)I prefer to keep it English so i can make everyone understand and that is the whole goal of this topic to give information to everyone who interest it. But yes some of us need to proof read our own post to avoid miss communication. Or worse... I learned in school that the German language builds it's sentences different. This if translated correctly isn't a problem if done wrong could cause confusion.(See many back and forth replies between me and Gunnar) I think it wouldn't hurt use at all if a native speak uses his or her native language when in doubt. Although this increases the work in a post since then it needs the English translation too. Shame we don't have professional translators here... (/rant)

| OK, then let me rephrase it: Sprites are now working. The line buffer is only 16 bit for now, like in OCS/ECS. This will be changed to the full AGA line in future, which is no problem since the fetching is already done. And as an improvement to AGA it is now possible to use all sprites every time without any restriction. As you know AGA had some restrictions in that matter which we were able to remove. This, of course does not affect the compatibility.

| That is awesome, Thomas. Just out of morbid curiosity, how trivial would it be to drastically enhance the AGA sprite ability? I know its almost pointless due to the HUGE blitting power of SAGA, but if it would be a mater of a 2 minute change to get drastically more (but still compatible) sprites, it might be worth considdering, although I can't currently think of a good arguement for doing so. ;)

| that was thebest i could come up with. ;) that and "if it costs nothing to further increase the sprite power, why not?"

| It would cost a lot of unnecessary sprite registers, thats for sure.

| Michael I advice to take a dip in the crypts here of the forum and read some old topic's. Bandwidth and stuff compared to other methods are mentioned there. I think we should sum up all that have been talked about in the past, prevents us from going ahead and talking in circles. Still 8 sprites is sweet to have especially since a few limitations have been lifted.

| Thats fine by me. Like I said, I didn't even have any particular want for more sprites so I'n not worried about it. Blitting is more to my liking anyway. ;)

Sprites are cool - I agree. But Sprites have by design limitations. The Blitter is a lot more flexible and as you fully correctly said the Blitter has so much power that we can do with it that we want. Technically it would be possible to increase the Spite numbers. This is not difficult - just cut and paste. But this would costs us significant resources for the registers. While its no work to increase the number of sprites - my opinion is that it would be not good usage of our chip resources.

| interrupts, serial IO and CIAs This time it is a short message, but nevertheless important. It is now possible to move the mouse pointer (from the last picture) now with a real Amiga mouse. For that Interrupts are working correctly and the CIAs are now fully implemented. It also means that the serial I/O CPLD is also working correctly. So all I/O ports are available now to the system.
