That is excellent news and work Thomas :)
I can't picture where the 68060 daughterboard connects, is it the large connector on the right of the image or the shorter one to the left?

Anyway congratulations on getting it assembled!

See the black ports named SyZ_A and SyZ_B? :)
I'm 99% sure thats where. If you look at the CPU cards, the same SyncZorro-ports are there.

Well done Thomas and also to all the Natami Team members in all their areas of development.

Good things come to those who wait!

Andrew, the daugherboard connects to both.  If you look closely at the daughterboard photos, you'll see that it has a connector at each of the shorter end.

Cheers!

And I'm guessing that the two matching connectors on the 68060 daughterboard are pass-through connectors; as all the connectors on the motherboard and daughterboard are both seen as male pin from the top sides.  I'm guessing the 68060 daughterboard has aligned female plug connectors underneath and that these plug into the motherboard connectors so that the CPU sits on the topside facing up away from the motherboard.
There are no pictures provided of the underside of the 68060 daughterboards but this is my best guess...
As discussed previously having the two connectors provides a solid connection without any tipping otherwise.
You can see 4 twin holes on the motherboard for - I'm guessing - locking down the CPU card if you need to.

Regarding size.  I'm impressed to see that the motherboard is not a great deal longer than 3x the size of the power connector.  Tineeeey!
I don't have experience with these things but it impresses me as a nice layout.  No connectors where the daughterboard will reside over (except the two that will connect the daughterboard) but plenty of connectors neatly arranged in the remaining space.
You can even largely guess what they will be once the connectors are are added.  So far Thomas seems to have added the power connector, the ide connector and a DVI screen connector and one other.

Doh! I didn't think to actually look at the other photos on the same page! Mind you I shouldn't even be looking at this stuff from work :D

Sorry for repeating myself but what form factor is it?

Mini ITX, ATX, flexATX, Micro ATX?

Thanks! :)

Its looking like a Mini ITX to me since it has space for 2 PCI slots.

Well done!

Finally, we can think about the present NatAmi, rather than the future version NatAmi for a long while.

So I'm guessing the motherboard and the CPU card will somehow be connected yeh?

Please tell us more.

@ Alex
I ordered four PCBs. They were about 1000Eur. One is assembled till now. The rest will follow as needed.

@ Golem
There will be problems. I already found a FPGA configuration issue. But this is our job here, solving those problems and getting the NatAmi into life.

Now I have to get test access to the FPGAs, try to download an experimental design. There is a level shift necessary from 1.8V to 3.3V but the FET I used for doesn't work as I expected.

The board is 170mm x 140mm. MiniITX is 170x170. So it will fit into MiniITX or larger.

Only the left PCI is according to MiniITX spec. The right one insn't. For that a "regular" MiniITX case may not have an opening for the right slot.

And I suppose any picoPSU should be able to power the little beast?

I have two picoPSUs (150W and 120W), are they enough?

Thomas,

Once again, well done. Another project milestone yet achieved. Now for all of the little operational details!

Something this complex will always have its little issues but you seem to be the kind of person that really puts in excellent up front design efforts. This will always pay dividends on the backside of project development where activities tend to be the ironing out of all minor wrinkles. (no easy task, especially with something like this) Keep up the excellent work!!

, Michael

This is my luck!

I am waiting all these years for NatAmi and now... I have to get married!

@ NatAmi team: Guys, please wait until the 3rd of October (just 15 days) for the pre-orders. I cant' deal with it right now :-P

P.S. Great work Thomas, I hope we can have our evaluation boards soon!

Were the PCBs 1000 EUR each, or 1000 total?  I'm trying to get a feel for how much the final thing will cost...

Another question: in another thread Gunnar said that this board does not have onboard ethernet, but the production ones will.  Is the routing already in place for the ethernet controller and PHY, or does that still have to be added?  Reason I'm asking is that if you have to move a bunch of stuff around anyway to accomodate the ethernet parts, you could also try moving the PCI slot that won't fit in a miniITX case, so it's in a standard location (unless of course the ethernet controller is meant to use the resources of that slot, and then the point is moot because the socket won't be there any more)
